Renterra is a Series A–backed SaaS company modernizing the $100B+ equipment rental industry. We’re building the operating system for rental businesses, and ecommerce is a critical part of how our customers grow revenue and reach new customers.
We’re hiring a Tech Lead to own the technical direction and execution of our ecommerce product. This role is focused on building and evolving customer-facing ecommerce experiences, with clear ownership over architecture, implementation, and quality.
This is a hybrid role based in Chicago, with regular in-office collaboration and flexibility for focused remote work.
What you’ll do:
- Own the technical design and delivery of Renterra’s ecommerce product end to end
- Lead development of customer-facing ecommerce experiences, including storefronts, checkout, and embedded components
- Build and maintain embeddable ecommerce surfaces (e.g. iframes, widgets, hosted components)
- Partner closely with Product and Design to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Ensure ecommerce experiences are SEO-friendly, performant, and reliable
- Make pragmatic architectural decisions that balance speed, quality, and long-term maintainability
- Review code, set technical standards, and raise the quality bar for ecommerce-related work
- Collaborate with other engineers to integrate ecommerce cleanly into the broader Renterra platform
What we’re looking for:
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent)
- Experience acting as a technical lead or clear owner for a product area
- Strong experience building ecommerce or customer-facing web products
- Solid understanding of SEO fundamentals, performance, and web best practices
- Experience building embedded products (iframes, SDKs, widgets, or similar)
- Strong frontend engineering skills with modern web frameworks
- Product-minded engineer who can work through ambiguity and make tradeoffs
